For more than a hundred years, singers and musicians in Monmouth County pioneered the sounds of jazz, gospel, doo wop, and rhythm & blues music.
Monmouth County played a big role in the careers of numerous internationally known music stars, including Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Claude Thornton, Sonny Greer, Erroll Garner, Donald Lambert, Fats Waller, and Erskine Hawkins.
This exhibit explores the history of black music in Monmouth County from 1880 to 1980.
This exhibition is curated by music historians Charlie and Pamela Horner.
