“An Evening at the Opera,” the second offering of Downtown Concert Series’ Fifth Anniversary Season, will be presented on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at 7:30 PM at St. Peter’s Church, 33 Throckmorton Street in Freehold, NJ. This historic, intimate setting is the perfect venue for showcasing the masterful works of the opera world’s most beloved composers.
The evening’s performance brings together some of the region’s most prolific singers to perform arias that romance, thrill and shamelessly arouse emotions that only the greatest operas can evoke. Excerpts from Puccini’s beloved favorites La Bohème, Madama Butterfly, Turandot, and La Rondine, will be performed by sopranos Nadine Robinson and Amanda Lee-Schneider and mezzo-sopranos Galit Dadoun-Cohen and Jessica Renfro. Tenors Jeremy Blossey and Philip Alongi will be joined by baritones David B. Murray and Charles Schneider as they perform excerpts from Verdi’s masterpieces including Il Trovatore, Rigoletto, and La Forza del Destino. The evening’s program also promises to enthrall listeners with both tender and rousing operatic arias and ensembles from operas by Bellini, Bizet, and Leoncavallo. The singers will be joined by Downtown Concert Series’ own Artistic Director Mark Hyczko on the piano.
Although each member of this repertory group brings his/her own expression and experience to this performance, together they offer the highest standard of operatic excellence through many individual and collaborative performances within the tri-state area. Brief narratives to familiarize and engage the audience will be shared by the performers so that the music and lyrics will inspire both opera lovers and soon-to-be aficionados.
